National Museum of African American History and Culture
Supporting the African American Experience
Challenge
The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) continues to educate audiences and celebrate the African American experience thanks in large part to donors through the museum's Living History campaign. To share the 2023-24 campaign accomplishments, and their impact on the museum, NMAAHC asked Eighty2degrees to design their Living History Campaign Update report. The museum wanted the piece to feel celebratory to recognize donors for their contributions to the campaign. We were also asked to create a mailing envelope to send the report and other campaign materials to donors thanking them for their support of the museum.
Approach
We designed the report to combine the museum’s and the campaign's branding into one cohesive look. Image-rich spreads feature objects and figures bursting from the Living History logo shape. Black and white background images communicate the museum's atmosphere. The typography combines the museum's polished typefaces and the campaign's bold sans serif to create dynamic and nuanced layouts featuring a variety of content types. We used gradients made from a selection of NMAAHC's color palette and the Living History campaign's gold to suggest the exciting and progressive moves made by the museum. Elements of the report design appear on the mailing envelope to catch the attention of donors and to convey the vibrant, active impact of the museum that they've helped to cultivate.
