DC Habitat for Humanity

30 Years of Empowering Homeownership

Challenge

Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. (DC Habitat) has been working to build communities and reduce homelessness for more than 30 years. Over the course of six years, they underwent a long-term outcome study of homeowners in two DC neighborhoods. They engaged our team to design a way to present their findings and the stories of homeowners, staff, and volunteers in a way that reflected the spirit and strength of DC Habitat’s community.

Approach

The design used linework reminiscent of architectural blueprints and scaffolding, which alluded literally to home construction and figuratively to "building" new opportunities. The typography had a more editorial feel, and the woodgrain pattern added additional texture and visual interest. In addition to personal stories, the report included neighborhood profiles with illustrated maps and an infographic quantifying DC Habitat’s impact.
