Capital Area Food Bank
Understanding the Impact of Hunger & Inequity
Challenge
The Washington, DC area has seen a dramatic rise in food insecurity in connection with the start of the pandemic in 2020. The increased need for food aid has underscored the urgent need to develop more reliable systems for the distribution of food to our neighbors in need, and to address food insecurity in concert with deeper inequities. For the past three years, we have worked with Capital Area Food Bank to present data about the impact of the pandemic on hunger and inequity through a compelling, engaging digital report.
Approach
The digital reports focus on the reading experience to encourage deep engagement. A sophisticated look with subtle animation and simple functionality ensures the report content can take center stage. Original data visualizations present key takeaways, and illustrative graphics support conceptual understanding to inspire action to help solve hunger in the DMV area and beyond.
