Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum

Protecting Local Waterways

Challenge

The Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum (ACM) documents and preserves the memories and artifacts of the Anacostia community in order to foster engagement and community action on key issues. The museum needed a place to showcase the substantive research conducted for their Urban Waterways initiative, which studies the relationship between urban communities and local waterways.

Approach

We designed and developed a website where community leaders, scholars, activists, and local developers can share best practices and insights on advocating for healthier waterways and communities in a newsletter-style website. The site features interviews, oral histories, custom pen and ink illustrations, and personal stories that all help to immerse the user in this region's rich history of environmental activism.
