Food Moves Us Forward

Challenge

The Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) sources and provides good, healthy food to people struggling with hunger and food insecurity in the Greater Washington region. Each year, CAFB distributes food for over 30 million meals. To celebrate 40 years of helping to alleviate hunger in Greater Washington, CAFB engaged us to design a sub-brand for their 40th anniversary that would debut at the organization’s annual gala.

Approach

We developed a logo and visual identity for CAFB's 40th anniversary and annual gala, a project that included environmental graphics, signage, and two storytelling exhibits. We balanced abstract food imagery with human connection and hope, as CAFB’s mission goes beyond simply distributing food to families in need. Our goal was to convey the serious issue of hunger in the region while maintaining a positive and forward-looking mentality.

Impact

The gala was a great success, raising $750,000 in donations – at least $100,000 more than previous events, which set a new record for the organization and paved the way for achieving greater impact.
